What is it EMAS...
The European Regulation 761/2001 defines an eco-management and audit
system called EMAS which any organization can voluntarily join if
they want to evaluate and improve their environmental performances and
communicate them to the public.
Key points:
The organization that wishes to join the EMAS Regulations is obliged to
carry out the following tasks:
• carry out the initial environmental analysis so that the initial
position of the company as far as environmental terms are concerned is established;
• establish their own environmental policy, that is the objectives
and the general action principles towards the environment, by defining the
reference frame in order to set the objectives and targets;
• draw up an environmental programme containing a description of the
measures adopted to achieve the objectives and targets following the environmental
policy;
• accomplish the environmental management system according the ISO
14001 standard which enables to develop, carry out, realize and maintain
the environmental policy;
• carry out the auditing by developing a systematic, recurrent and
objective evaluation supported by documentation as regard to the organization’s
performance, the environmental management system and the processes aimed
at protecting the environment;
•draw up an environmental declaration for the public which contains
information about:
• the history of the site
